Some the questions and answers that I am frequently asked, but if these don’t answer your query, please get in touch – I am always happy to answer your questions in person.
WHAT ABOUT COVID, FLU, OR OTHER TRANSMISSIBLE ILLNESSES?
If you have, or have been in any recent contact with anybody who has an easily-transmissible illness, such as Covid, flu, Norovirus, or even a bad cold or the like, then please do the proper thing and stay away from the clinic. You will not be penalised financially (please see TERMS). If you were to pass it to your clinician, then you would be impacting dozens of other people who are all equally in need of help…
If you feel well enough under those circumstances, we can easily and quickly arrange a Zoom meet instead of a face to face.
Thank you for your understanding.
HOW DO I GET STARTED?
It is one thing to accept that you need to get help but it is another to actually try to find it. Emrys offers a free, no-obligation, 15 minute initial telephone consultation.
I prefer to treat clients with fewer but longer sessions of 1½ to 2 hours (the first session is often longer to allow time for extra information gathering). This has proven very effective over the decades. It’s more cost-effective for you because it’s less hassle with your work schedules, childcare arrangements, travel, etc.., and it allows me to get to the root of the problem, often in just one session, and more importantly to get straight to work with the solution.
The aim is to have you leaving the clinic in a much better head-space than you arrived in.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Therapy session fees are fixed at £99 per session not per hour! The preliminary session will be around two and a half hours duration, and subsequent ones if needed at around one and a half to two hours.
WHAT ABOUT PHYSICAL PAIN?
There are many types of chronic/persistent or redundant pain issues that psychotherapy can help with: you may be surprised!
HOWEVER, I WILL ONLY TREAT CLIENTS WHO HAVE HAD THEIR PAIN/ CONDITION PROPERLY INVESTIGATED BY A MEDICAL DOCTOR or SUITABLY QUALIFIED CLINICIAN, OR WHO HAVE BEEN REFERRED TO ME DIRECTLY BY THEIR MEDICAL PRACTITIONER.
Ideally you will be somebody whose pain-relieving drugs no longer work, or whose doctor can find no physical cause for the pain, or who has Fibro/ME or similar conditions, and so on.
IT IS IMPORTANT TO STRESS THAT I AM NOT CLAIMING TO CURE THE AILMENT IN ANY WAY, but aim to reduce or remove the associated pain. Please call me to discuss whether your condition is likely to respond to treatment and how I can help you.
IS YOUR THERAPY DIFFERENT FROM NHS SESSIONS?
Yes, very different! I have the freedom to use the most up-to-date scientifically-validated techniques from across the globe right alongside ancient, time-proven methods such as mindfulness. This is a clear advantage I hold over NHS therapists who are limited to a small number of modalities such as CBT.
And my longer sessions mean I have the time to actually listen to you instead of watching the clock.
Another advantage is that by coming to my private clinic your appointment will be scheduled around a time that suits you. Moreover, you won’t have to wait three months or more just for an assessment!
WHAT HAPPENS IN A THERAPY SESSION?
You will find yourself in a totally non-judgemental space where you will be treated with dignity and respect.
My aim is to get you relaxed ~ Get to the bottom of the issues ~ Then apply solutions straight away.
The process is two-way, and, depending on the problem, you may be asked to do some ‘homework’. Other treatments e.g. phobia removal or post- trauma recovery are done directly by me. I typically use the powerful process known as the rewind technique for these because it is non-invasive, safe, and proven through rigorous scientific studies to be very effective.
WILL I HAVE TO WAIT LONG FOR AN APPOINTMENT?
I aim to see people and start treatment within a few weeks of first contact if not sooner!
WHERE IS YOUR CLINIC?
Therapy sessions are held in our quiet, purpose-built consulting rooms at The Solstice Wellbeing Centre in Bradfield St George, near Bury St Edmunds, overlooking unspoilt countryside with a free, spacious, off-road car park.
IT'S NOT EASY FOR ME TO TRAVEL, CAN I STILL HAVE THERAPY?
I offer an online service via Zoom to clients who live too far away to travel/lack transport, or who have a transmissible illness, or who simply find it more convenient due to time-limits.
The Covid-lockdown years proved that almost all types of therapeutic interventions are possible online, and it’s proved so popular that it’s now a regular and popular fixture.
If you choose to use this simple service you will be sent a link via email the evening before the session + a reminder-text to your mobile/cell phone, which requires an affirmative YES (only after you’ve checked your emails to make sure the link has arrived safely).
